'Radial' recovery area equipped

Thanks to a grant of £12,000 from NHT, the NNUH angio suite has opened a new recovery area for patients undergoing coronary procedures using the radial artery in the wrist.
Many patients undergoing coronary angiography now have it performed using the radial artery in the wrist. This speeds recovery and mobilisation as such patients do not need to spend a couple of hours in bed afterwards. The new recovery area for these patients is equipped with specially designed reclining chairs. This not only makes much more efficient use of space (5 chairs fit into an area previously used for 2 beds) and hence aids throughput in the lab but also makes for a more pleasant experience for the patients who can chat to each other more easily if they so wish.
It is hoped that this area will also be used for PCI (angioplasty and stenting) patients before too long.
